​Ian and Marlyn Ferguson's son, Graeme, died in Ottawa in July 2005. His death was ruled a homicide and seven people were convicted in his murder. From the extraordinary event of the death of her son, Marlyn used the energy of her grief to reach out and support others who had experienced loss through homicide.

For four years she has facilitated homicide loss support groups. Survivors attended these groups from all over the Lower Mainland and as far away as Chilliwack. Her support has been vital to individuals and families alike.
